Halloween 2017 Water Fairy Makeup

Monday, October 30, 2017

Hi Divas

For Halloween 2017 I decided to switch things up and leave all the scary makeup looks behind. Last year I created my scariest Halloween look to date. You can see it here. It was inspired by The Conjuring 2 movie. This year IT and the Cult of Chucky has definitely dominated the horror scene. Honestly, I am not the biggest fan of clowns therefore watching the movie is a NO for me. Doing an IT tutorial is an even bigger NO for me too. Now that leaves the popular Child's play Chucky. Honestly, Chucky and I have a long and twisted history together. I watched the movie when I was 6 years old. It was one of those life changing events and I was never the same again. It scared me for life! I never looked at my dolls the same way again. I used to have a recurring dream where I dreamed my dolls were trying to kill me and chase me down the street. To this day those doll dreams haunt my childhood memories. My mom and sister still joke about those Chucky memories. So, what was left for me to do? I decided to take a 180 degree turn and venture into the world of fairy tales and fantasy. Upon research I came across a mythological look. I wanted to transform myself into a Water Fairy.

Water Fairies originate from Greek mythology. They are Naiads also known as water nymphs. They are female magical beings that protect and look after fresh water such as rivers and springs. Naiads are very beautiful and intriguing spiritual beings. Most are seen as good but some can have evil intentions towards humans. In ancient Greece, they were revered and worshiped by many sects. There are many interpretations of a water fairy or a naiad's appearance. Most have beautiful human features with mythical patterns resembling water characteristics. I was very inspired by a YouTuber called Minsooky. She creates the most amazing makeup looks. She did an interpretation of a water nymph. I liked it so much that I wanted to try it too. Mine is nowhere near as beautiful as hers. I found it to be a lot harder to do than it actually looked. Professional makeup artists make everything look so flawless. My shaky hand was not having it so I ended up with this look instead. Hope you still like it and let me know what you think.

Unfortunately, I did not have time to shop for new makeup to create this look. I ended up using what I already have in my cosmetic stash and adapted some things. To create a white canvas, I buffed in my HD Liquid Coverage Catrice foundation in Sand all over my face. To cover my dark circles, I used the Essence Camouflage Full Coverage Concealer in 10 Nude. To have an even whiter face I used my NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk Lait and blended it out with my fingers. I set my whole face with a white eyeshadow from the Too Faced Bon Bons palette called Divinity for an even extra white look. Once my face was set I moved onto the eyes. I placed the NYX Eye Shadow Base in White all over my lids. With my fingers I tapped the silver Jewel Dust Laila eyeshadow from Becca for an iridescent sparkle. For dark dramatic brows I used the Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner in Blackest Black. On to the winged liner!

This is where things got a little shaky and complicated. Doing the winged liner at the base of my upper lashes was not a problem as I do it all the time. I used my trusty Essence Super Fine Eyeliner Pen and went over it with the Maybelline Gel Liner for more drama. Drawing another winged liner in my crease nearly killed me. My hand was shaking and it looked like spaghetti. I had to go over it many times. Thankfully it turned out alright. I would have liked it too look more dainty and graceful and not like super hero eye liner, LOL. For mascara I used the Tony Moly Panda's Dream mascara for voluminous lashes. To contour my face, I applied two shades of blue eyeshadow from the BH Cosmetics That's Heart palette. I used the darkest blue at the sides of my face and worked my way into the centre of my cheeks with the lightest blue. This was the most fun part of the whole look. Shading my face with blue was a serious mind-altering moment. It was so much fun to do something against the norm.

Onto the face patterns, I had to adapt and use what I have. I really wanted a white glitter pen but alas I was at a loss. I decided to improvise and use the NYX Eye Shadow Base to create scale like patterns and top it up with a white sparkling eyeshadow called Polyester Bride from the Urban Decay Ammo palette. I think it turned out pretty well. I used the same white eyeshadow to highlight my nose and underneath my eyes. For the lips I lined them with an Essence Kajal Pencil in Everybody's Darling. I then placed the blue eyeshadow that I used to contour on my lips. I wanted my lips to have a 3D effect so I dabbed a glitter eyeshadow called Maui Wowie from the Urban Decay Ammo palette. I then set my face with the Loreal Infallible setting spray. All Done!
