 Ombre Manicure

Ombre nails have been trending in the beauty arena for awhile now and I finally plucked up the courage to give it a go. I have seen so many beautiful coloured ombre nails in magazines and on Pinterest. Ombre nails gives you the freedom to play around and choose any colour combinations that you would like. I bought a nail art kit from the Essence brand which included two sponges, a nail art brush and two wooden sticks to create different types of nail art. I chose ombre to start out with because I thought it would be easier to do. Let me tell you, I was wrong!

To create the ombre look you will need sponges, your different nail art colours, a whole lot of toilet paper and an impermeable surface like a plastic bag or glossy magazine cover. I coated my nails with a clear base coat and while drying I placed my magazine on my lap to rest my hands on. I then coated my sponge with purple, pink and orange stripes on the sponge. Coat as much nail polish on the sponge as possible so that the colour can transfer easily on the nail and look vibrant. I slowly rolled and pressed the sponge onto my nails. This is where things got messy!

As I pressed the sponge down the nail polish transferred onto the rest of my hand as well as the magazine. Nobody said anything about this in the tutorial I was following! Eek, there was nail polish everywhere. I mean everywhere. After the first nail I had a choice of whether to abandon ship and try something else or persevere through the crazy mess. I decided what the heck, let's do this! So I carried on with the rest of my nine fingers. A whole lot of toilet paper later of trying to clean up the excess nail polish my manicure was done.

Problem! My fingers were filled with nail polish up to my knuckles and so was Cameron Diaz's face on my magazine cover, oops! I decided to coat my ombre nails with a top coat and go to bed. I'll deal with the crazy nail polish fingers in the morning. The next day I had serious nail polish operation clean up control. I soaked my hands in warm water to remove most of the polish on my fingers and cleaned off the rest with nail polish remover and a ear bud.

Finally my nails started to look like something from those Pinterest images I have been studying. From a psychological point of view this manicure not only brightened up my hands it also uplifted my mood. Every time I looked down at my nails I felt a sense of delight of what I accomplished and the colours reminded me of summer time.

I am sure there must be an easier and mess free way to do this manicure. So if you have any tips to give me. Please let me know!

Lots of divalicious kisses.

  2. I usaully use cellotape to cover my fingers part and afterwards just pull off the mess. Or I use some wood glue on my fingers.. Let it dry and the start and after the ombre just pull off the messy part.

  5. I tried Ombre and it looked awesome. It was a real messy situation so I kind of felt that its not worth it. I have the same feeling towards water marbling. Its such a bitter sweet situation. I think I've lost my love for nail polish? I see that I tend to lean towards nail wraps and black nail polish these day.

I love your nails though. It really does scream SUMMER!

  6. Wow Desle! Looking at your nails, I would've never thought you went through all of that. You did an amazing job and they look great doll. I admire anyone that can do nail art in any form. HaHaHa I just stick to one color and that's it. The colors really look great with your skin tone.
