Fears and Irrational Phobias
Anybody ever been fearful or scared of something? I sure have! My top
phobias would have to be worms and darkness. I hate all things long,
tube like, and slithering all over the place. Freaks me out! Don't get
me started on parasitic worms. Eek! Brings chills up my spine. The dark and I have
also never been friends. I always switch on the light when it starts getting dark no matter where I
am. I keep spare candles in my draw just in case there is a black
out as well.
I
am sure everyone has a fear that creeps up on them from time to time. I
found ,on one of my random Google searches, irrational phobias that
totally got me puzzled. Some made me confused, while others made me laugh
my head off. Here are a few:
Weird Phobias:
1.Fear of flowers (Anthophobia)
This one confused me. How could something beautiful cause someone to fear it?
2.Fear of grandmothers (Babushkaphobia)
This one really made me laugh. I was trying to think of and evil grandma movie that could have caused this fear.
3. Fear of looking up (Aneblephobia)
Please forgive me for my ignorance but does this mean you spend your life looking at the ground?
4. Fear of sunlight (Heliophobia)
Guy's how do you avoid the sun? Now unless you are living in the Southern and Northern poles this could work out for you.
5. Fear of the Pope (Papaphobia)
Lol!!!
6. Fear of no mobile phone contact (Nomophobia)
I think I might have a bit of this one. Having no signal and no airtime plus no data bundles does send me over the edge just a little.
7. Fear of the number 4 (Tetraphobia)
This one is so weird. Some Asian cultures have a superstitious belief that the number four represents death. Creepy!
8. Fear of swallowing (Phagophobia)
I take it they are people who are not big on eating.
9. Fear of long words (Sesquipedalophobia)
Ironic that the name of this phobia is a very long word!
10. Fear of having a fear (Phobophobia)
Uhmm, Ok...
Anyone want to share any fears or phobias you might have? I promise I won't tell any body!;-)

Awww,no! When you are a child the fear is worse sometimes. Thanks for sharing Rose. Xx
DeleteMy weirdest phobias: snails/slugs and seaweed. I scream like a little girl! Give me spiders, snakes, scorpions any day - those I'm fine with.
ReplyDeleteHehe, I must say when I am in the sea and seaweed brushes my legs I jump like a crazy person. Wow, never heard of a snail phobia.
DeleteHaha - Loved this Post. You are so funny! That pic of you is brilliant. I have a serious fear of food poisoning. I always check expiry dates and will choose the one furthest away, even if I'm going to eat it that night. I will never eat anything that is past the sell by date. I also never reheat chicken or meat...I could go on forever :P
ReplyDeleteWow, you don't want to live in my house I reheat everything;-)
DeleteHeehee love the pic! I have a common fear and that is flying cockroaches! I can handle anything that crawls... but those things that sit on the wall and fly when disturbed? eeek!
ReplyDeleteMaybe bats would then also freak me out.... hmmm

DeleteThis is such a great post, I guess I also have a few very irrational fears, one of them being polka dots, Its more a hate than a phobia I guess. The one about grandmothers and the number 4 is so flabbergasting, lol!
ReplyDeleteThe grandmothers one really got me laughing. Wow polka dots! Would never have thougt of it.

Good to know you hate all things birds. I'll stay clear of it when I send you post:) Your head being squashed is so hectic.
Deletehahaha! number 9 is hilarious!!! Well, I do not know if they are phobias, but I do not like snakes, the ocean nor flying. I do like being in the beach, but not in the ocean.

DeleteThose are sooooo funny! HAHAHA I wasn't aware they had names for them. Oh gosh, I'm scared of any type of roach. Ugghh! I hate those things. I went to the zoo when I was a child and went into their dark exhibit. They were crawling all over a box of cereal. Traumatized me for life!

Oh gross! That is so traumatizing;-))
Deletei have an irrational fear, but i don't want to share it, unless it offends someone who has a relative who causes me to have my fear. cryptic! hehe.

ReplyDeleteHi Catriona:) There are some public swimming pools I will never swim in. Won't mention names, lol. But are you fearful of the hygeine or too many people in one space? Xx
DeleteI have a strange fear of ducks. Especially teddy bears that look like ducks. My brothers know this and they sometimes buy duck teddy bears and hide it in different spots of my room. It completely freaks me out!
